Alexander Kahn, who was introduced to me as Robert Kahn's brother. He was starting the Russian edition of PC Magazine and needed a welcoming article that I wrote, together with Academician Stanislav Emelyanov. Meeting with Robert Kahn I told him that I had had the pleasure to be acquainted with his brother. Robert Kahn replied that he was very pleased to hear this, but that he had no brother. Working for many years in the PMP on Information Security I had the opportunity to communicate not only with colleagues in my narrow specialty of IT System Analysis, but with very interesting people with different backgrounds, such as the chairman of the PMP on Information Security - Ambassador Henning Wegener (Germany) and the chairman of the PMP on Terrorism, Ambassador Ahmad Kamal (Pakistan + UN).
None of this would work without an inspiring leader. Professor Zichichi has devoted his life to making science an instrument for solving the world's problems instead of contributing to them. I am old enough to remember how the development of nuclear weapons placed the world at a crossroads, whether humanity itself would survive. Scientists were at the center of the crisis. Professor Zichichi engaged scientists from Lawrence Livermore and their Soviet counterparts to discuss ways to verify arms control treaties.
By the end of the cold war Erice was recognized as a valuable site for such discussions. Perhaps for that reason, when the transfer of power in the Soviet Union evolved into an attempted coup, President Yeltsin sent a large contingent of scientists in his own plane to participate in the Erice seminar. It soon appeared that this contingent was not chosen randomly, but might contain many of the scientists who knew their missile launch codes. Despite their senior status, they quickly proved themselves to be competent scientists and enthusiastic participants.
